The best place to live this year is the capital. The South Bohemian Region came in second, the Karlovy Vary Region and the Moravian-Silesian Region in third place. This was shown by the results of the twelfth year of the comparative research Place for Life, provided by Communa. The survey assessed social and environmental parameters and population satisfaction. The Olomouc region is penultimate.
The research was conducted by the analytical agency Datank, which was based on data from public institutions and also conducted a satisfaction survey with 3,500 respondents. The evaluation covered the areas of ecology and the environment, childcare and education, infrastructure development, health and social services, labor, security, civil society and tolerance, leisure activities and tourism.
“The winner was the capital city of Prague, which has the highest average wages, the lowest unemployment, the highest number of universities, but also doctors and dentists, as well as the highest average life expectancy for men,” said David Pavlát from Communa.
According to him, the second South Bohemian region succeeded due to a low accident rate, the amount of recycled waste per capita or the share of completed flats. The county also ranked first in a population satisfaction survey. The third Karlovy Vary region in the evaluation scored the share of the area of natural habitats, the lowest production of municipal waste, the lowest difference in salaries for men and women or the lowest share of children not admitted to the highest kindergartens. He was second in the satisfaction survey.
The Moravian-Silesian Region came in last place, where according to the survey, the highest amount of harmful substances is released into the air, people recycle the least, there is unemployment, high illness or a lack of gas stations and libraries. The Olomouc Region was placed on the penultimate place, followed by the Hradec Králové Region.
The Zlín Region won the survey, and the authors then assessed, for example, safety, transport, care and education or business opportunities. This year, the Zlín Region finished in fourth place. According to the organizers, the aim of the surveys is to motivate the state and local governments as well as non-profit organizations, entrepreneurs and local people to improve conditions and the environment.
