Aleksandar Čavrič: Slovakia gave me everything, I want to represent (interview)
Before the season, his contract with Slovan Bratislava expired and he did not know for a long time when or if he would get a new one. The departure and subsequent return of the head coach Vladimír Weiss Sr., who had a different idea about the composition of the staff than part of the leadership, was addressed.
Finally ALEKSANDAR ČAVRIČ extended the contract until the end of the 2024/2025 season. He decided to combine the best years of his career with white colors, which he has been wearing since September 2016.
The connection paid off for Slovan and Čavrič. The Serbian defender started to play at the top of the attack and overshadowed forwards Eric Ramírez and Ivan Šaponjic, who were looking for goal-scoring form all autumn.
The 28-year-old best striker of the champion will end the year by applying for Slovak citizenship. And soon he may appear in the nomination of coach Francesco Calzona’s national team.
On Thursday, you ended the year with a wonderful and moreover winning goal against Golden Moravians (4:1). Did you manage to solve the final battle with the catfish without any problems after a difficult autumn?
I think that the first half didn’t look so good from our side, we also struggled a bit with the pitch, we didn’t have as many runs and it wasn’t what we imagined and wanted. But in the second half we were already the better team, so we are happy.
You are certainly also happy for the goal, with which you again delighted the spectators in the stands…
Of course. I saw that the ball was going straight for me, so I tried it. Thank God I hit it well and it went into the net. I am especially happy that I helped the team to finish the autumn successfully.

Thanks to that, you became Slovan’s top scorer in the autumn, with the sixth hit in the league you surpassed the five-goal David Hrnčár. However, you still lose five goals to the best scorer in the league, Nikola Krstovič from Dunajská Streda. Do you feel it?
It can’t be rated much because most of us didn’t play regular league games, the line-up changed every weekend. That’s also why we don’t have the same statistics as other players from the league. If we had a full minute, those statistics are definitely better for me and others.
You scored another eight cup goals – four in the European Conference League (EKL), four in the Slovnaft Cup. Are you satisfied with the autumn balance sheet?
I think I can be satisfied. It can always be better, I’m not saying it isn’t. But I played a good autumn, and the team also had one of the better seasons. We will try to improve it even more in the spring. We know what awaits us next year and we will give it our all.
Do you also set shooting goals for the spring part? Should we chase the mentioned 11-goal Krstovič or Cobnan from Podbrezov (9) or Polievka from Banská Bystrica (8)?
