About Minsk
Minsk is the capital and largest city in Belarus, located by the rivers of Svislach and Niamiha. The earliest data for a settlement within the vicinity of today's Minsk dates back to the 12th Century. The city is famous for its large number of architecturally impressive churches, such as the Neo-Romanesque Cathedral of Sts. Simeon and Helene, or the church-fortress of Sts. Peter and Paul with its twin towers. Minsk is also known for another kind of cityscape, the dormitory towns of microraions, which are densely covered with monotonous blocks of flats.
