About Waterloo
Waterloo is situated in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant. It's estimated that over 25% of the town’s population consists of foreigners working for the European Union and NATO institutions located in nearby Brussels. It's also home to one of Belgium's largest international colleges, St. John’s International School. Waterloo is famous all around the world as the site of the last battle of Napoleon Bonaparte, during which his army was defeated by the allied forces of Prussia and Great Britain. In 1820, a large mound with a statue of a lion looking towards France was erected at the battlefield to commemorate this event.
