About Plovdiv
Plovdiv is the 2nd-largest city in Bulgaria. Its most famous sites include a Roman amphitheatre and a stadium, both built in the 2nd Century AD. The Old Town boasts several very fine examples of the Bulgarian National Revival architecture, such as the Balabanov House and the Lamartine House. It's estimated that Plovdiv's museums hold a total of 30,000 historical artifacts. The most interesting item on display is the world-famous Panagyurishte Treasure, a set of utensils made of over 6,000 kg of pure gold in the 4th Century BC. Plovdiv is known as a very multicultural place where the biggest mosque in Bulgaria peacefully coexists with numerous churches of other religions.
