About Ceske Budejovice
České Budějovice is the biggest city in the southern Czech Republic, and is known to the English and German-speaking world under the name of Budweis. It was granted city rights in 1265, and since then has been brewing its world-famous beer. For a time, Budweis was the official royal brewery of the Holy Roman Empire. Today, the most important brewery is Pivovar Budějovický Budvar. The most important landmarks of the city are the large Old Town square, which is surrounded by impressive examples of Medieval and Baroque architecture, and a train station constructed in the Belle Epoque style.
