Ribe is officially the oldest town in Denmark. It's believed to have been established at the very beginning of the 8th Century. In 948, German missionaries constructed the first Scandinavian church in the town, which at that time was a major trade centre in Northern Europe. Today, Ribe boasts a large number of perfectly preserved Medieval buildings. History enthusiasts come to see the 12th-Century cathedral, whose bells play a folk song about Queen Dagmar and the Viking Museum.
