About Aix-les-Bains
A renowned spa resort, Aix-les-Bains lies in eastern France, in the Rhone-Alpes region, near Lac du Bourget, which is the largest natural lake in France (18 kilometres long, 3.5 kilometres at its widest, 85 metres deep). The town’s baths were already popular during Roman times, and at some point they were even called 'Aquae Gratianae,' to highlight the patronage of Emperor Gratian. Still filled with original ancient bath remnants today, Aix-les-Bains remains very popular with tourists, who flock here to benefit from the healing thermal springs with temperatures of 43-45 oC. The water here is so clean that in addition to hydrotherapy, it can be used for drinking. Accommodation in Aix-les-Bains is plentiful and varied, with about a hundred hotels and quite a large number of furnished lodgings. Visitors can choose from activities such as balneotherapy, swimming, diving, windsurfing, water-skiing and sailing on the lake. Other attractions offered at the resort include an 18-hole golf course, casino and a race track.
