About Amiens
Located 120 kilometres North of Paris in Picardy, Amiens is best known for the Paleolithic site discovered in one of its suburbs and for the city's monumental Gothic cathedral. Built in the 13th Century, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Amiens is remarkable for both its immense size and its rare artistic unity. Its façade is adorned by a fine display of sculptures, a labyrinth inlaid in its floor, and the world-famous relict: the alleged head of John the Baptist. A UNESCO World Heritage site, this magnificent temple is illuminated in summer evenings by a “sound and light” presentation. Another attraction in Amiens is a park built on small islands surrounded by a grid of canals.
