About Auxerre
Located between Paris and Dijon in the region of Bourgogne in Central France, Auxerre is a commercial and industrial center, famous for the Chablis wine. The history of Auxerre goes back to Roman times when it was established as a provincial city on a major road, the Via Agrippa. Sights of interest include the Gothic Cathedral of St. Etienne with its fine sculptures and stained glass windows, the Abbey of Saint Germain containing some of the oldest mural paintings in France in its crypt, the Clock Tower in the Old Town, the late Gothic Church of St. Pierre en Vallee, and the Church of St. Eusebe with its Romanesque tower.
