About Brest
Located in Brittany in Northwestern France, Brest is a city of long maritime history. Its naturally protected harbour can receive vessels of any size, including the largest aircraft carriers. Brest was the site of a large German submarine base during World War II, and was bombed heavily by British and American air forces. Hastily rebuilt in the course of the 1950s, the town itself is not very attractive, but the surrounding area boasts spectacular landscapes that include sandy beaches, picturesque grottos and breathtaking cliffs. It is a popular place for windsurfing, fishing and yachting. Other tourist attractions in Brest include the Tour Tonguy Museum, the Maritime Museum and the Oceanopolis aquarium.
