About Lyon
Lyon, France's second biggest agglomeration after Paris, boasts a rich history that graciously blends in with the city's dynamic present. Picturesquely located on the rivers Rhone and Saone, surrounded with hills, the city is southeastern France's premier destination, for business travelers and tourists alike. Originally a Celtic settlement, Lyon became a Roman town in the 1st century BC and quickly became a major economic, military, and religious center, a true ancient metropolis of 60,000 people, second only to Rome. The remnants of the Roman days are still to be seen in Lyon, primarily the glorious amphitheatre from the year 19 AD. Those who want to know more about ancient Lyon should visit the Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilization.
