About Marseille
One of the most attractive and well-known cities on the French Riviere is Marseille. It has a long and eventful history - it was founded in 600 by the Greeks. Its first name was Massalia. Now it is part of the region of Province. Some people argue about this, but many scientists consider Marseille the olderst settlement in France. Massalia briefly grew into a successful city especially in terms of commerce. Later Celts ruled it for a short time until the Great Roman Emprire came and conquered it.
