About Orleans
The northernmost city on the Loire, located just over 100 km south-west of Paris in central France, is best known for Joan of Arc. Her raising the English siege in 1429 was a turning point in the Hundred Years' War. The Maid of Orleans is honoured in museums, by statues, on stained glass images. Joan of Arc Day (May 8) is celebrated with a medieval fair, parades and fireworks. Apart from that, the town has Fine Arts Museum, while a small History and Archaeology Museum is home to an exquisite Celtic bronze piece, the Treasure of Neuvy-en-Sullias.
