About Sarlat
Sarlat is the capital of the region of Périgord Noir, on the Dordogne River. The town is famous in France for its perfectly preserved 14th-Century architecture. The most impressive buildings include the Medieval Benedictine abbey with its unique Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat. The town's economy relies mostly on tourism and agriculture. Tobacco, corn, walnut oil, foie gras and a variety of cheeses are some of the esteemed local products. They are best bought at Sarlat's famous market, which is held twice a week and attracts a large number of visitors from all over the region.
