Souillac is a resort situated in the region of Midi-Pyrenees. Though it's as picturesque as the more famous cities of the region, it doesn't attract as many visitors. Virginia Woolf once marvelled over its peace and quiet: "No tourists... England seems like a chocolate box bursting with trippers afterward." Architectural highlights include the Medieval church of St. Marie with its huge domes, spacious interior and elaborate Romanesque sculptures. Children will certainly be delighted by the Musée de l'Automate, which displays a wide collection of 19th-Century singing and dancing mechanical toys.
