About Weimar
A city of 62,000 inhabitants in Thuringia, Weimar was one of the great cultural centers of Europe, home to masters of literature and thought such as Goethe, Schiller and Herder. What's more such fames as Bach, Berlioz, Kandinsky, Liszt, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Strauss and Wagner happened to live and work in Weimar. The city’s library, one of the oldest public libraries in Europe and UNESCO World Heritage Site, contained a collection of over 1,000,000 precious volumes. Unfortunately, many of them were destroyed in a fire in 2004.Main attractions in Weimar include the houses of Goethe and Schiller, and the museum of the famous Bauhaus school of architecture.
