About Wurzburg
Wurzburg is a city on the Main in the northern part of Bavaria, located about the same distance of 115 kilometres either from Frankfurt, or Nuremberg. It is also connected via the Rhine-Main-Danube canal to the North Sea and the Black Sea. Wurzburg has a university, founded in 1582, housing famous Wilhelm Rontgen’s laboratory, where in 1895 he discovered x-rays. There are several outstanding historical monuments in Wurzburg: the 15th-century Old Bridge over the Main adorned with sculptures of the saints, the magnificent Baroque palace (Wurzburger Residenz) with its grand staircase, salon and frescoes by Giovanni Tiepolo as well as the Fortress Marienberg on a hill overlooking the river, home of the prince-bishops, today housing several museums.
