About Castlebar
Back in the 11th century, the town of Castlebar was built around the beautiful De Barra's Castle. Since then it was the site of numerous battles, when in glorious times French and English troops fought for it. Today Castlebar, the central city of Mayo County, is a modern and fast-growing urban center, enlarging around its historic medieval downtown. Back in time it used to be a lively market town, crucial point for local tradesmen. Today the city retained these traditions with flourishing economy and cheerful atmosphere. It invites to wild nightlife, cozy pubs and traditional restaurants, where the spirit of the region is most original. Infrastructure and modern tourist facilities transformed it into a charming stop for visitors and a best starting point for exploration tours of the surrounding area.
