About Parma
A historical town in the region of Emilia-Romagna, Parma is remarkable for its beautiful and well-preserved Medieval architecture, and for its University, one of the oldest in the world. Remarkable buildings include the Town Hall with its onion-domed clock tower, the Palazzo della Pilotta housing the majestic Teatro Farnese, the 11th-Century Cathedral, one of the most imposing Romanesque cathedrals in Europe, with a 13th-Century Gothic belfry and a famous Assumption of the Virgin fresco by Correggio on the cupola, and the magnificent 12th-Century Baptistery, octagonal in shape, faced with pink Verona marble and lavishly-painted alcoves inside. Parma is also famous for its ham (prosciutto) and its parmesan (parmigiano reggiano).
