About Positano
A handful of colourful buildings spread amphitheatrically on a steel slope on the Amalfi Coast, Positano was once a prosperous port during the 16th – 17th Centuries, but by the beginning of the 20th Century it had declined to a poor fishing village. Tourism is its main industry today, with its picturesque setting, fine hotels, apartments and villas, great food and a variety of activities attracting numerous visitors. Take a leisurely stroll around “the town of stairways”, admire the breathtaking view of the sea, visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica dome and its famous icon of the Black Madonna, shop for hand-made sandals or fashionable accessories, bask in the sun at the Spiaggia Grande or the Marina, see the prehistoric caves, or take a boat trip to enjoy the view of the town from the sea – indeed, the “pearl of the Amalfi coast” has something for everyone.
