Lying on the southern shore of Lago di Garda, on a small peninsula that stretches into the lake, Sirmione is an attractive small town with a wealth of history, the imposing yet graceful Scaliger Castle and a popular health spa. The Roman poet Catullus praised it as “the gem of all the peninsulas”, and mentioned having a villa in the area.
