About Kristiansand
Norway’s fifth-largest city with a population of about 75,000 and capital of the Vest-Agder County on the country’s southern coast, Kristiansand was founded in the 17th Century by King Christian IV. It developed as a market town, and its centre was built with a grid-like street pattern. The cobblestone streets lined with bright white houses invite one for a leisurely stroll. The town’s seaside location, its favourable climate and well-developed tourist facilities attract numerous visitors. The pedestrian main street, Markensgate, is full of small shops and cafes. Kristiansand hosts two popular music events: the Quart Festival, and the International Church Music Festival.
