About Tromso
Praised as the site of the liveliest nightlife in Norway and home to the world’s northernmost university, Tromso is a pretty little town of old wooden buildings on Tromsoya Island, some 350 kilometres inside the Arctic Circle. Tromso Bridge and a road tunnel connect it with the mainland. Although famous for its heavy snows in winter, Tromso is known for its rather mild temperatures due to the warming effect of the North Atlantic Drift, a powerful warm ocean current that is an extension of the Gulf Stream to the north-east. It is a great place to experience the Midnight Sun and admire the Aurora Borealis. More earthly attractions include the Domkirke, one of the largest wooden churches in Norway, the striking modern Arctic Cathedral, the Polar Museum, the Arctic-alpine botanical garden, the Mack Olbryggeri Brewery and Tromsdalstinden Mountain (1,238 m).
