About Cordoba
With its wealth of historical and cultural heritage and a lively present, associated by many with Spain's emblematic Flamenco and bullfighting, Cordoba is one of the country's most exciting tourist destinations. First founded by the Romans, it was a point of great strategic importance and a supplier of olive oil, wine and wheat for the empire. It flourished as the capital of the Moorish kingdom, and it was at that time that the Mezquita - the Moorish Mosque - was built. The third biggest mosque in the world and one of the most remarkable architectural monuments in Spain, it represents the Caliphal style combining Roman, Gothic, Byzantine, Syrian and Persian influences, characteristic of Arabian-Hispanic architecture.
