About Gothenburg
Gothenburg, or Goteborg, is an urban centre with regional government. Located in Vastergotland Dsitrict of Sweden, it has 478 055 inhabitants and an area of 451 square kilometres. The greater area has population in excess of 600 000. It is a regional center on the western coast and second only to Stockholm in terms of territorial extent. At the beginning of the 1600s Sweden had control over a single site on the western coastline. In 1621 King Gustaf II established Gothenburg. Within 37 years all territories in the east, formerly ruled by Danes, were annexed by Sweden in the context of the wars.
