Lying amidst dry and barren land in Anatolia, Turkey's four-million capital is an interesting mix of monuments from its millennia-long history, and a modern city, the administrative, industrial and commercial heart of a vast state. The old town (Ulus) and the modern city (Yenisehir) are clearly differentiated.
