About Cappadocia-Urgup
Lying in the heart of Cappadocia, Urgup is a convenient point from which visitors can explore this region of supernatural beauty, the crossroads of trading routes and cradle of various civilizations, land of cave dwellings and churches carved into the rock where Saint Paul used to preach to the early Christians. Although small, the town offers a variety of accommodation, restaurants and shops. From there, tourists can enjoy trips to the most famous sites in the area, such as the open-air museum (Goreme) containing 30 of the best preserved churches in Cappadocia with fine Byzantine frescoes, the Uchisar fortress that provides a breathtaking view of the Cappadocian landscape, Avanos with its centuries-old pottery tradition, the churches in Soganli Valley and the underground cities of Kaymakli and Derinkuyu.
