About Fethiye
Known as Telmessos in ancient times, Fethiye is today one of Turkey’s most paradisiacal resorts, famous for the sapphire waters of Oludeniz and the many historical monuments in the area. Its history can be traced back to the 5th Century BC, when Telmessos was the most important town of Lycia, situated on its border with Caria. The town is surrounded by lush Mediterranean firs, olives, laurels, myrtle and acacia. The famous Oludeniz Lagoon – dazzling blue, perfectly protected, crystal-clear and inviting – is a haven for pleasure boaters and water sports enthusiasts. Nearby Dalyan makes an excellent day-trip. Take a boat ride to the mud bath, which is believed to be highly beneficial for the skin, then on to Turtle Beach, one of the few places where you can see turtles’ nests, visit the ancient city of Caunos with its amphitheatre, Roman baths, the Acropolis and the Temple of Apollo, as well as the Carian Rock Tombs.
