About Karahayit
The small village of Karahayit lies just 5 kilometres west of the famous tourist attraction Pamukkale and is remarkable for its hot springs (55oC), which can be enjoyed in a bathing pool. The water is rich in iron, and was therefore called Kirmizi Su (the Red Water). Its mineral content is responsible for the distinct red and green hues of the rocks, so unlike the glittering white travertine of Pamukkale. Aqueducts dating back to the 3rd Century AD run between Karahayit and Pamukkale. Accommodation is ample, some hotels have their own thermal pools, and visitors can treat themselves to spa and wellness services.
