About Crawley
Crawley is a town with about 100,000 inhabitants in West Sussex, England, about midway between the capital and the coast. The area has been populated since the Stone Age. During the Roman period, it was a center of iron industry. The name Crawley probably originates from "craw leah", i.e. "crow infested clearing", and dates back to Saxon times. The settlement was mentioned in Domesday Book, a survey of all England made at the order of William the Conqueror in 1086. The right to hold a weekly market was granted by charter in 1203.
