About Leeds
If you think of Leeds as industry plus football, then you have just started. The city of Leeds will first meet you as the North of England does - with a huge Yorkshire welcome. The regional capital has been known mainly for its highly developed industry and extensive manufacturing traditions that grow even stronger nowadays. Back in the time Leeds has been the starting point for many famous names. Montague Burton opened the largest European clothing factory here, and started the city's biggest industry, which has been since then progressing in accelerated pace. The Waddingtons were also founded here, to make later the world-famous game Monopoly. Thomas Chippendale based his first factory and starting producing furniture in Leeds. The first Penny Bazaar that Michael Marks opened was again founded in Leeds.
