About Telford
Built in the 1970s, and named after the renowned civil engineer Thomas Telford, the city of Telford is one of the largest urban centres in Shropshire. Home to several large IT companies, the city boasts a huge shopping centre and a town park full of attractions for the children. The area’s greatest magnet is without a doubt Ironbridge Gorge, which is considered the most explicit symbol of the Industrial Revolution. Apart from the spectacular iron bridge, the city offers such attractions as the Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, the Darby Houses and the Coalport China Museum. Probably one of the most interesting sights, however, is the Blists Hill Victorian Town, an artificial locality recreating the life of a Victorian city, which comes complete with historic shops, pubs and even an original 19th-Century bank.
