About Inverness
Inverness is often called the capital of the Scottish Highlands. It's world famous as home to Scotland's two legendary landmarks: the Inverness Castle, where Shakespeare's Macbeth lived, and Loch Ness, the residence of the mythic Loch Ness Monster. Visitors also come to see the never-finished Inverness Cathedral and the Old High Church, located on a hill that has been a site used for worship since Celtic times. Every September, the city holds the Northern Meeting, which is the most prestigious gathering of bagpipe players in the world.
