Ennis Overview

Set in the heart of the busy commercial Clare Country, the town of Ennis offers a lively and attractive base for exploration tours of the Irish southwest. It is modern town immersed in the harmony with a fascinating past.

Ennis is today a lively market town, the commercial center of the county. Narrow streets downtown coexist in Ennis with larger lanes with beautiful hotels, business centers and vast shopping area. One of the city's major attractions is the 19th Century cathedral set in gothic style. Near the cathedral, the Franciscan Friary is another must for visitors of the region. To know better Ennis and Clare County the De Valera Museum is especially recommended and the exhaustive collections of the Clare museum will introduce to you the variety of cultural and artistic heritage hosted in the county.

Ennis is small, but boasting of cheerful and extremely lively atmosphere. Its biggest fame is the live music - in the clubs, the welcoming pubs or in the open along the streets. Traditional sessions are best here with local performers and bands from neighbor towns.

Besides its own attractions, Ennis serves as gateway to picturesque areas of verdant nature and small historic villages. Take a trip to the Cliffs of Moher and admire the unforgettable views. Sport fans will be delighted by the splendid golf course at Lahnich, while nature lovers can explore the limitless mysteries and charms of the nearby Burren National Park. Ennis has only disadvantage - public transportation to nearby attractions is not very well catered for. But though this may be considered a disadvantage, tourists tend to prefer the walks in the delightful area instead of using the transportation of their own vehicles.
