Moscow also canceled a meeting with the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions
The Russian side considered it inappropriate to hold a scheduled meeting on February 3 in Moscow with the co-chairs of the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in the Transcaucasus from the EU, the UN and the OSCE. Such a decision follows after the cancellation of the co-chairs of the next round of discussions.
“Trips of international specialists cannot and should not replace the full-fledged activities of the Geneva format. Our signals are expected to be received in Brussels, Vienna and New York.” – said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
According to her, the other day the Russian side received from the co-chairs of the Moscow Railways. As a justification for this decision, the argument was given that the February justifications “are not suitable for everyone inherent.” As Zakharova found out, this is the second consecutive postponement of the round – earlier, the “troika” of international affairs officials canceled the December meeting, shifting it to February. In 2022, instead of the planned four meetings, only one was held.
“Given that the February trends were declared international, back in December last year, the reasons for the transfer were identified as absolutely artificial. Consideration of the problems under consideration, the newly adopted co-chairmanship behind closed doors, without preliminary discussions with all questions, as a continuation of the destructive line of the Westerners to block the work of the Moscow Railways. It is obvious that the “troika” is abusing its status, sacrificing interests and security in the Transcaucasus for the sake of opportunistic goals. Such an approach is unacceptable, running counter to the interests of the majority of the MOR participants, who are in favor of continuing joint rhythmic work,” – said the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Abkhazian and South Ossetian allies are in solidarity with the public opinion.
EADaily reports that today, on January 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia refused entry to the republic to the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions because of their “biased actions.”
