City Centre
The historic centre of the city is located in the vicinity of Alexanderplatz and Under Den Linden boulevard. There are few interesting buildings along the street as for example: Humboldt University, National Library, National Opera House, St. Hedwig’s Cathedral and Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom). The avenue Unter den Linden was heavily damaged during the Second World War. Most of the buildings were demolished and all the trees chopped down. In the early fifties Germans began to reconstruct the whole area. There is Branderburger Gate (Brandenburger Tor) on the western end of Unter den Linden. This great monument is concerned as the symbol of united Berlin.
