Altstadt
Frankfurt is often seen only as a business centre or a transit hub, but it's so much more. Frankfurt’s old city centre, or Aldstadt, contains some interesting medieval and gothic buildings. It also contains the Römer, built in 1405, which for many years served as the Rathaus of Frankfurt. The entire city was virtually destroyed by "strategic" bombing during the second world war, but some buildings of the Altstadt have been reconstructed.
