Guide to Frankfurt Frankfurt gallery
Hochst
The area of Höchst was first settled during the stone age and was later the site of a Roman fort. Through the incorporation of neighboring Sindlingen, Zeilsheim and Unterliederbach in 1917, Hoechst's population grew to 32,000, ten times its population in 1860.  In 1928, Hoechst, (still under the 1919-1930 French occupation) was incorporated into Frankfurt.  World War II largely spared Hoechst.  Since the 1970s, Hoechst "Old Town" has been under landmarks protection. Today, thanks to its residents and their measures to restore and preserve the town, Hoechst has become a special jewel-piece.
