Westend
Westend is a district located west from the city centre. It is famous for a meadow called Theresienwiese that is the venue of Oktoberfest (beer) festival. It all began in 1810 when King Joseph Maximilian of Bavaria chose this place to organise here his wedding ceremony as he married Princess Theresa of Saxonie. Then the meadow became popular recreation area and a lot of events like Oktoberfest took place there. At first Oktoberfest was a horse race, but then it was transformed into beer festival. Now it attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world who spend their time in enormous tents on drinking beer and eating grilled sausages. The other recreation area in Westend is Westpark. Apart from it there is an interesting Transportation Museum located near Bavaria Park.
