Ujlipotvaros - Margaret Island
Ujlipotvaros is a residential and commercial neighbourhood situated by the Danube river north of the city centre. You will also find lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and bookstores there. All parts of the city may be quickly reached by underground, bus or tram. Margaret Island is located on the Danube river and is 2.5 km long. It is full of nature as most of it is covered with parks and gardens. Nevertheless there are also some historical sites as for example the ruins of medieval church and cloister. In summer tourist may hire a boat or canoe to row through the Danube river. The island is linked with the land by Margaret Bridge. It was founded in 1876, but then destroyed during the Second World War. Afterwards it was rebuilt and widen. At present it is 638 metres long and 25 metres wide.
