Howth
For a Dublin’s visitor it is hard to miss Howth Head. This golf course perched on top of a peninsula that juts out into the Irish Sea and overlooks Dublin Bay, Howth Golf Club offers players some spectacular views, but apart from them, Howth is a hilly golf course with much gorse and heather. For anyone who likes walking, it is quite physically demanding course. On the outward journey, the dogleg par 4, 5th hole allows little room for error, with the trademark heather dominating the left side. However it is the back nine that is most agreeable. The 13th hole, an uphill par 4 measuring 324 yards with a cluster of trees awaiting any pulled tee shots, is a fine hole. While the 15th called Furnan's is a delightful hole that overlooks the Bay and has views across Wicklow Mountains. By the time you finally reach the clubhouse, you may be feeling rather tired, but a hot shower and good food should help make memories of this unique hillside course all the fonder.
