Dundrum
The suburb of Dundrum dates back from 1169, when with the landing of the Anglo Normans in Ireland were built inner and outer fortifications and Dublin Castle, which was a part of this outer defence system and lead to the establishment of the suburb of Dundrum itself. In the seventeenth century, village activities centered on the castle itself. For centuries, probably the most influential event to occur in Dundrum took place in 1854 with the opening of the Bray – Harcourt Street line, which of course, brought with the economic activities also numerous benefits. Nowadays, the most significant building in the village is the Carnegie Library, opened in August 1914 by the lord Chancellor. The last significant building to be erected is the Shopping Centre, which opened in 1963. The centre was notably one of the first of its kind in Ireland. Its architecture is representative of the time.
