Duomo
The Duomo Cathedral is one of the largest temples in the world, but is a surprisingly elegant mass of marble, boasting 135 stripes and 3 400 statues. It began life as a Gothic Church, commissioned in 1386, but was finished in the early 1800s as a strange mixture of styles, bearing the designs of the different ages. Despite its bright exterior, the interior is lofty and somewhat gloomy. Its vast spaces are dominated by huge stained – glass windows. The Duomo has four aisles, and ranks of confessional boxes, labeled with opening times and the name of the father confessor. Some are more popular than the others, judging by the queues.A magnificent and solemn place, deserving at least a peak.
