In most of the tourist's guides the Damrak plaza is concerned as the heart of the historic district. The most characteristic feature of this part of the city are canals, located parallel to each other. The biggest of them is Amstel. It is very close from here to the famous Artis Zoo and Waterlooplain with its popular flea market. The biggest attractions are: old hanseatic houses, Royal Palace, churches (Nieuwe Kirk and Oude Kirk), flower market, Maddame Tussaud Museum, Begijnhof Garden, Theathre Museum and Anne Frank house.
