Alfama
Alfama is a district situated in the historic city centre of Lisbon. Despite so many years passed by, the area has preserved its medieval shape and unique atmosphere. There are lots of examples of Moorish and Roman architecture in Alfama. One of the most famous attractions is Sé Cathedral. It was built in the XIIth century on the ruins of Muslim mosque. Inside it you have to see XIVth century Gothic chapel of Bartholomeu Joanes and crib designed by Machado de Castro. Then it is a good idea to visit medieval castle called Castelo de São Jorge. It was constructed by the Visigoths in the Vth century and then rebuilt by the Moors in the IXth century. When you reach the castle you may admire marvellous panoramic view from it. Other attractions of Alfama are: Museu das Artes Decorativas, Igreja de São Vicente de For, Igreja de Santa Engrácia, Museu Nacional do Azulejo and Convento Da Madre de Deus.
