Taksim-Sisli
Sisli is a prosperous residential and commercial district in Istanbul. Though a solemn place, the most famous site in the district is the Italian Jewish Cemetery. Behind its Baroque entrance there are tombstones engraved with names and epitaphs in Italian, English, French, German, Russian and Latin. (In case the gate is not open, look for the caretaker). From the cemetery, it’s over one kilometer to the Beth Israel Synagogue.
