Transportation in Nice

Nice is a corridor to many destinations along the French Riviera, or Cote d’Azur. By train, the city is only 25 minutes from the world-famous Cannes. Many coach companies link Nice with destinations throughout France, and daily ferries to Corsica are available.

Bus
The Sunbus is the most popular form of public transportation in Nice. The station for Sunbus is Station Centrale, on Général Leclerc square. Buses run from the bus station to the railway station of Gare Nice Ville and Vieux Nice. Stamped tickets are valid for one hour. Daily and 14-trip tickets can be purchased, as well as a ‘Nice by Bus’ pass, which can be valid for one, five or seven days, with a return trip to the airport. The Sunbus tickets are available at tabacs (tobacconists) and at Sunbus kiosks.

Car
Nice is easily accessible by car using the A8 motorway, and signs for the Nice Côte d'Azur Airport are easily seen. However, caution is needed negotiating the sharp turn on the section of the A8 near the airport. In fact, careful attention needs to be given while driving everywhere in Nice, as it has recorded some of the worst accidents in the country.
Train
The train station in Nice only provides transport to cities along the French Riviera. From Nice, the SNCM ferries are the quickest and least expensive way to travel from mainland France to Corsica. Gare Nice Ville connects major destinations in France, as well as cities in Italy and Spain by the Train à Grande Vitesse (TGV) high-speed trains. TGV links Nice to Paris, Lille, Lyon, Marseilles and other cities, such as London, Brussels, Geneva, Zurich and Milan. One-way tickets for the TGV from Nice to Monte-Carlo cost 3,10 EUR.
