Holding one of the world's principal collections of Etruscan art, this museum is installed in Palazzo della Crocetta, a 17th-century edifice attributed to Giulio Parigi. Having started to operate as a museum in the late 19th Century, it has ever since maintained a comprehensive Egyptian section, as well as displays of Greek and Byzantine art.

Adorned with Palazzo Vecchio, it is, in fact, named after Palazzo della Signoria, and only an expert traveller would know that the paradox is easily solved once discovering that this is merely Vecchio's former name. Apart from being the location from where the Florentine Republic started, the piazza is a lively meeting hub and receives thousands of tourists daily.

This religious complex, which constitutes a church and a convent, was recently converted into a museum featuring a valuable collection of manuscripts. It was here that Fra Angelico, the 15th-century Renaissance painter, and religious leader Girolamo Savonarola used to live in alternating years.

A large Renaissance palazzo, Pitti is set on the southern bank of the River Arno, not far from Ponte Vecchio. Completed in the latter half of the 15th Century, the structure was comissioned by Luca Pitti, the famous Florentine banker, to be his residence. Purchased by the Medici family less than a Century later, the site quickly became the main residence of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, thus receiving loads of art objects, fine furniture, sculpture and painting.

This 16th-century castello attained its present-day shape thanks to Ferdinando I de' Medici who conducted a large-scale restoration programme to bring this Brunelleschian structure back to life. The new exterior design is attributed to Buonalenti. The interior frescoes are the work of Volterrano and mostly deal with the life of the Medicis, depicting several significant personae of the day.
