Castles in Vienna

Vienna is home to some of the finest architecture in the world and its beautiful castle, the Casa de Hermesvilla is no exception. It is located in a tranquil setting in the centre of the former imperial hunting grounds, known as "the Place of Dreams.” The castle was built by Emperor Francis Joseph in the hope of persuading his wife to spend more of her time in the city. The Hermesvilla is also admired as a venue for famous special exhibitions on topics of cultural history. Another popular tourist site is the castle known as the Schloss Schönbrunn. The castle was designed and built by architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach in Rococo style and comprises 1,441 rooms. Only 40 rooms, including the Imperial Suites, where the six-year-old Mozart played in front of a mesmerised Empress are open to the public. The castle grounds include the amazing botanic gardens, which are an array of beautiful colours.
